Fresh air in every classroom. 20-35% less energy.
Ventilation steps up as a class comes in, and heating follows the school day and the holidays. More than 30 schools and public buildings already run on Bisly and save 20-35% energy. The facility team runs several schools from one BMS, which often flags a fault before a teacher reports it.
Less energy. One platform. 30-40% lower cost. ROI in under 3 years.
Energy savings first
Heating, fresh air and light follow the timetable and the school holidays instead of running all day. More than 30 schools and public buildings on Bisly save 20-35% energy, and CO₂-led ventilation cut ventilation energy by about 40% in a Tallinn school pilot.
One platform, one responsible provider
No stack of software and hardware suppliers to coordinate, and one party answerable for the result.
30-40% lower cost of acquisition
Optimised devices and a deployment configured in the digital twin take the engineering hours out of the project, so the building gets a complete system for less.
ROI in under 3 years
The energy saved pays the system back in under 3 years, and regulation now requires building automation anyway.
Non-residential buildings with heating or cooling above 290 kW have needed building automation since 31 December 2024. By 31 December 2029 the threshold drops to 70 kW (Germany: GModG; elsewhere in the EU: EPBD).
The rules a classroom has to meet, met automatically
Lighting, fresh air and temperature in a classroom are set by standards and national rules. Bisly configures each room type to them once in the digital twin, holds them automatically and keeps the trend data that shows they were met.
| What the rule asks | What Bisly does | |
|---|---|---|
| Light for younger pupils | EN 12464-1, lighting of indoor workplaces (EVS-EN 12464-1 in Estonia): 300 lx maintained illuminance in classrooms, with dimmable lighting | Classroom room type set to 300 lx; DALI-2 presence and lux sensors hold it at the desks and add only what daylight does not give |
| Light for older pupils and adults | EN 12464-1: 500 lx in classrooms for evening classes and adult education | Upper-school, evening and adult-education rooms set to 500 lx; the level can change by timetable, so one room serves both |
| Fresh air | Estonia, Government Regulation No. 52 (7 July 2025): CO₂ in classrooms on average up to 1,000 ppm | Ventilation follows CO₂ in every classroom and keeps it under the limit; the trend shows each lesson |
| Temperature | Estonia, Regulation No. 52: at least 19 °C in classrooms and 18 °C in the gym; no lessons above 27 °C | Each room holds its own temperature; Adam flags rooms that drift out of range before the first lesson |
Lux levels per room type are configured with the lighting designer at design stage. Other countries set their own indoor-climate rules for schools; we map them in the specification.
Solutions that fit schools
Room automation
Each classroom keeps its own temperature, fresh air and light, following the school day and whether a class is in the room. Nobody has to open a window mid-lesson or turn the heating down after the last bell.
Explore room automationEnergy monitoring
Heat, water and electricity meters are read remotely, so the property manager can see where the energy budget goes, school by school and month by month.
Explore energy monitoringBMS for the facility team
The heating plant, air handling units, classrooms, lighting and sports hall of every school on one screen. The facility manager has one system to learn, Adam flags faults before a teacher reports them, and the next school is set up the same way.
Explore the BMSClassroom light that follows the daylight and the timetable
Bisly controls classroom lighting over DALI-2 where the luminaires are addressable and with TRIAC dimmers where they are not. Daylight harvesting measures the light at the desks, dims the rows by the windows on bright days and adds only what daylight does not give, so each classroom holds 300 lx or 500 lx all day. Empty classrooms and corridors switch off by themselves: presence sensors alone save 40-46% of the lighting energy in a classroom.
DALI-2 lighting
- Bisly DALI Bridge 2 (LD02): one DALI-2 line of 64 luminaires per bridge
- Presence and daylight sensors on the same line, high-bay sensors for the sports hall
- Existing wall switches become DALI-2 inputs
- Light levels and scenes per room type and timetable
TRIAC lighting
- UM6D dimmer: 6 channels of 240 W each, in the switchboard
- UMD dimmer: 2 channels of 220 W, behind the wall switch
- UMS Supersensor, in black or white: presence (PIR as standard, radar as an option), light level and colour temperature, plus CO₂, VOC, humidity and temperature
- Leading or trailing edge, set in software
Bisly has two device portfolios, and both run heating, ventilation and lighting: wired devices in a new school, Bisly Wireless where a retrofit should not open the ceilings. Either way, one sensor and one BMS run the whole classroom.
What classrooms get and what the facility team sees
Classroom temperatures are controlled automatically, and teachers can adjust them within set limits. The facility team runs the whole school from the BMS, with functions designed to EN ISO 52120-1: class B as standard, class A where you need it. Click a function to see it.
Heating
Each classroom holds its own temperature, and heating pauses when a window opens. Teachers can change the temperature within limits the facility manager sets, and the room returns to its schedule on its own. The dashboard flags rooms that drift from their set temperature, so a cold classroom is easy to find.
Ventilation
Fresh air follows the CO₂ in each classroom, so a full class gets more of it. Airflow goes up as a class comes in and drops when the room empties, never below a set minimum. If a teacher says a room was stuffy on Friday, the trend shows what happened.
Lighting
Each classroom holds the light level its pupils need: 300 lx for younger pupils, 500 lx for older pupils and adult learners, as EN 12464-1 sets out. DALI-2 presence and daylight sensors keep that level constant at the desks, dim near the windows on bright days and switch off empty classrooms and corridors.
Timetable & holidays
Heating, air and light follow the school day and the school year. School holidays go into one calendar that applies to every system at once; evening and weekend use, like sports-hall bookings, is added as an exception.
Plant room
Heating plant and air handling units with live readings, run from the desk. If the connection drops, the plant keeps running.
Energy & metering
The property manager sees which school uses the most energy per m², with energy and indoor-air reports per school as PDF, CSV or Excel, on demand or on a schedule.
Alarms to the facility manager
Faults reach the facility manager or the on-call contractor by SMS or e-mail within seconds. Adam also flags silent sensors, stuck valves and classrooms that stay too cold or too stuffy, and explains each one in plain language.
De-icing & leak detection
Ramp and gutter heating switches on by itself when it is cold and wet, and a leak raises an alarm in the same BMS.
What it does and what it pays back
energy savings across 30+ schools and public buildings on Bisly
less ventilation energy when airflow follows CO₂ instead of running at full power.
return on investment
from an out-of-range reading to an alarm on the facility manager's phone.
